Neurotoxins

Injectables

How Neurotoxins Work

  • Nerves normally send chemical signals to muscles telling them to contract.

  • Botox temporarily blocks those signals.

  • When the muscle can’t fully contract, it relaxes.

  • Relaxed muscles don’t pull on the skin as much, so wrinkles soften or smooth out.

The effect is temporary. Most results last about 3–4 months, after which nerve signaling slowly

returns to normal.

Treating Wrinkles (cosmetic use)

Neurotoxins work best on dynamic wrinkles—wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements,

not by sagging skin.

Common areas:

  • Forehead lines (raising eyebrows)

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows (“11” lines)

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

By relaxing the muscles in these areas:

  • Existing lines look smoother

  • New wrinkles may form more slowly

Other Beauty and Cosmetic Applications

Beyond wrinkles, Botox is sometimes used for:

  • Jaw slimming / teeth grinding (bruxism): Relaxes the jaw muscles

  • Lip flip: Slightly relaxes muscles around the upper lip so it rolls outward (does not add volume)

  • Brow lift (subtle): Muscle balance can slightly raise the eyebrows

  • Neck bands: Softens vertical neck lines

  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis): Blocks nerve signals to sweat glands (commonly underarms, hands, or feet)

Medical Uses (non-cosmetic)

Botox is also widely used to treat medical conditions, such as:

  • Chronic migraines

  • Muscle spasms or stiffness

  • Eye twitching or crossed eyes

  • Certain bladder conditions

Safety and Age Considerations

  • Botox must be given by a licensed medical professional.

  • Effects are temporary and reversible.

  • Side effects are usually mild (like temporary soreness or bruising).

  • Cosmetic Botox is generally intended for adults, and providers carefully evaluate age, health, and reasons for treatment.

In Short

Neurotoxins work by relaxing specific muscles, which smooths wrinkles and can change how

certain facial areas move or look—without surgery. It’s one of the most common cosmetic

treatments in the world, but it’s still a medical procedure, so safety and professional oversight

are essential. At The Wellness Collective we use Daxxify, Dysport, and Jeuveau.
